Cap-sleeved Shogun Hanten Jacket
Hanten jackets are a traditional garment from north Japan,
worn inside during the cold winter months and during periods of heavy snowfall.
Popularised in the 18th century, the jackets were traditionally padded with a layer of cotton.
BUNGU store is now offering a range of modern high-end hanten jackets, hand made by our supplier at their factory in Japan.
The lining is a bespoke mix of cotton and polyester, formulated for optimum warmth and breathability.
Coming in a range of styles – from full, half and cap-sleeved – and patterns, the outer cotton layer is constructed using traditional Kurume textiles from the Chikugo region of Japan.
Many of the jackets also feature plenty of handy inner and outer pockets – perfect for storing your kokeshi dolls.
These jackets can be worn inside as a housecoat, as a layer under an overcoat, or as a stylish outer garment over knitwear now or a shirt, blouse or T-shirt in early spring.
With correct care, a hanten jacket is a hardwearing piece, which can be enjoyed for many years.
As one customer told us, "it's like wearing a warm hug."
