Hanten jackets are traditional garment from north Japan,
worn inside during the cold winter months and during periods of heavy snowfall.
Popularised in the 18th century, the jackets were traditionally padded with a layer of cotton.

BUNGU store is now offering a 100% Cotton lining and outer fabric, the wadding is also 100% Cotton which is very rare to find. Hand made in Japan.
The outer cotton layer is constructed using traditional Kasuri textiles which is Ikat woven in Kurume in the Chikugo region of Japan. This cross-body fastening style Hanten jacket with velvet collar keep you warmer than the other style which opens front of the jacket.
You can cross the front layer with the string belt attached on the side and the front oft he jacket.
Many of the jackets also feature plenty of handy pockets.

These jackets can be worn inside as a housecoat, as a layer under an overcoat, or as a stylish outer garment over knitwear now or a shirt, blouse or T-shirt in early spring.
With correct care, a hanten jacket is a hardwearing piece, which can be enjoyed for many years.
